Varnish seldom chips, it may flake but lacquer will chip. If you've never done this before and you value the table, get a pro to do it. It will be well worth the money.What is the best way to repair wood table?
Try using a little paste wax on the damaged areas, it will sometimes fill the areas in and is undetectable. You can also use some thinner on a rag to blend the edges smooth just be careful not to rub too hard or you will take the finish off.
Have it professionally stripped %26amp; re-done.
