Any suggestions on how to clean a thick sticky residue on my pinewood table? I had it covered with plastic?

I covered the table with a heavy plastic that i bought from walmart and now i have a thick sticky residue that i can not get off the wood table.. i tried old english , orange oil ,soap and water nothing works!Any suggestions on how to clean a thick sticky residue on my pinewood table? Be very careful using Goof Off or Goo Be Gone because they will ruin the finish on your table. What you can use without damage to the wood is Dawn dish soap, close to full strength or WD-40 on a rag. Either will need more attention after removing the plastic residue. You will need to neutralize the dish soap with vinegar diluted in water and the WD-40 with a degreaser. Thereafter, you will need to help the wood by using your orange oil moisturizer, murphy's oil soap or scotts liquid gold to revitalize the wood.Any suggestions on how to clean a thick sticky residue on my pinewood table? try WD-40. this product works magic! i use it for everything.
Try something called 'Goo Gone', you should be able to find this in the cleaning section of the grocery store. Also possibly try a bit of water and baking soda as a gentle scrub.
olive oil! (just a little bit with a clean cloth and a lot of elbow grease.)
Like the other answerer's suggest ....WD40 !
