I had the same problem until I was told of an easy and cheap way to fix it and it worked ! I used some Linseed oil on a cloth and give it a good rub saturate the cloth with it and wipe let it sit for a few hours or overnight and the next day wipe with a dry cloth .

How to repair scratches in painted black table?
I bought a painted black dining room table last year and before I could purchase a glass top for it, the paint has been scratched / flaked in several places. I REALLY don't want to sand and repaint the whole table! What kind of paint can I use to repair the damaged areas that will blend in and last?
