How to protect a painted coffee table?

I am going to paint my coffee table with a design and don't want it to get scratched, what can I use to seal/protect my painted table?

To protect the artwork you have just done on the table i would recomend you use a good few coats of laquer or clear varnish this will protect your picture and seal the table from unwanted staining. hope this helps a bit.How to protect a painted coffee table?
Apply a few coats of `liquid plastic`. It has a lovely sheen. Good luck.
you could also purchase a piece of glass from any glass/mirror company. they finish the edges so that they are rounded. i've done this for a desk and dresser that i painted. gives a nice finishing touch.
