How do I turn a black desk into a vanity table?

I have a small, black computer desk. No drawers, only a couple of shelves. I am in desperate need of a vanity table in my apartment, as the bathroom is shared. I have a lot of makeup/hair products/tools to organize, but don't like the idea of the desk being covered, or having stackable drawers. What is an inexpensive, yet classy way to turn this into the vanity table I'm looking for?How do I turn a black desk into a vanity table?
Visit a local home improvements store--they usually hire people that have some experience in a trade, that has something to do with the department they are working in.

So visit the paint/stain department, and ASK QUESTIONS. Get to know the people there, and keep them up-to-date on your project. You will be surprised how much you can learn, just from talking to the people who do/have done that all the time !!How do I turn a black desk into a vanity table?
The key piece of a vanity is the mirror so if you can swing that, you are half way there. You can:

Attach a mirror from the back

OR attach a mirror to the wall and put the desk in front of it

OR use a table top mirror.

Use pretty containers that match your style to sort your stuff. You might have one for scent and/or body products, one for makeup (and sub sort face/eyes/lips, or day/night if you have a lot), one for hair accessories, one for hair products and tools, and one for nails.

Your wish list is a little hard to figure. For everything to be super handy, you need to either go vertical with drawers (or something accessible from the front) or you need to spread out across the surface of the table. You might like hat boxes or photo boxes or something like that. They can stack off to one side. But they won't be as easy to get to...lots of shifting with this system. On the other hand, you could get boxes all in one size, and do your tasks in order, so that you use everything in that box that you need, then lid it, and move on to the next box.
Hi,

here are some steps you may consider:

- decide what you really need for your desk and keep those things in place;

- remove the others;

- you said you had shelves. Make some room there for your makeup products. Keep them separate from the others;

- buy a mirror and place it on the wall so that is doesn't bother your work at the desk;

- keep this very strict and organized and you should be fine.
