I accidentally left something hot on top of a table and the surface has now warped. I was wondering if their is any way to restore the surface as the area affected is not that large. How can I restore a table where the surface has warped?
Sounds like a veneered top.
Protect the surface with foil, wax paper w/ a layer of brown paper over top.
No wrinkles, if the finish softens it will leave marks
Place a pot of hot water over the spot.
Once it is warmed up, put heavy weight on it (bricks?) %26amp; let it sit overnight.
Good luckHow can I restore a table where the surface has warped?
Split Dog's trick should work, because if heat has melted the adhesive and allowed the surface finish (be it veneer or a plastic like melamine) to bubble up, then heat may well remelt the glue, and the heavy weights should hold the surface down until it cools and resets. If that doesn't work, then (assuming veneer or woodgrain effect plastic), one possibility is to cut one or more slits along the grain (so it won't show too much) with a razorblade, and then fiddle PVA adhesive (white woodworking glue) as far as you can under the detached area. Bits of thin card can help, here. Then, press down as best you can, to squeeze out excess glue, and clean it off with a damp rag. Next, weight the affected area down evenly - something heavy and floppy like a sandbag would be ideal. Leave overnight for the glue to set. It would be a good idea to lay some clingfilm or similar under your heavy weight, so you don't end up sticking it to the table!
Is it a laminate surface that is distorted?
