How to fix a dent or a chip in a wooden table?

Self-explanatory. I tried to put together my blowdryer and it flew out of my hands onto the dining room table. There is now a dent on the table. I've heard of putty crayon (where do I get it?) and a light-ironing technique, but it's really important that I can fill the dent somehow.

Put a wet cloth over the dent in the table and then iron it dry. This should raise the dent back to the original level. It may take a couple of tries, also practice on some scrap wood before you do the table.
