I need to know for science what is a water table and how it works.
I cant find it in my textbook.
And i was listening in class and my science teacher did not explain what a water table is.What is the water table and how does it work?
The water table is underground water whose level rises and falls according to the amount of precipitation. The water trickles down from the surface, filling in pores around the soil and cracks in rocks. At some point the soil is completely saturated with water. This point is the water table. It is found by drilling/digging. Depending on where you live this water is found at different depths. For example, in areas that have a lot of precipitation in terms of rain or snow the water table might only be several yards beneath the surface. In arid areas the water table may be hundreds of feet beneath the surface. In times of drought wells can dry up if the source of the well is the water table. Artesian wells, on the other hand, tap into water that is trapped between layers of solid rock, and is a more reliable source of water. What is the water table and how does it work?
Do the following:
1. Get a shovel
2. Dig a hole, straight down
3. When you hit water, you've reached the water table.
It is the level where water is found in the Earth's crust at any given location. Sometimes the water table is not very deep. If it reaches the surface there will be a spring. Sometimes the water table can be very deep. This would require deep wells to get at the water.
Despite not being able to find it in your textbook, there are lots of references to ';water table'; on the web. Here is a search result with its 1.6 million hits:
