How are table tops at restaurants sealed?

You know when you go to a restaurant, and they have some kind of papers maybe relating to the site that used to be at the restaurant or about the family, encased in a plastic protective covering on their table tops? What is the plastic covering and how is this effect acheived? How are table tops at restaurants sealed?
Its either a glass top sealed by a rubber strip or a layer of shellac. How are table tops at restaurants sealed?
The covering is usually glass or plexiglass. It is sealed with caulk used for sealing bathroom tiles.
Go to Sherwin Williams , they have this clear epoxy like stuff , it comes in two parts ( a gallon of each ) it is poured on , it is the stuff like they use on bar tops to cover things such as old vinyl records , old pictures , and even old blue prints . I can not remember the name of the product but they will know if you ask them .

Or are you talking about Acrylic Glass (plexiglass) ?
It is a special kind of epoxy used called 70 layers or something like that, (that is not the exact name) but they will know what you mean at a good paint store.

It is put on to seal menus, pennies, almost anything onto the table top ; then it looks like 70 layers of varnish.

Sorry I cannot remember the exact name. I have seen something like it at Lowes or Home Depot too.
with an epoxy sealer,it can be found at a home depot or Lowe's

you mix part A with part B pour it on and it will simulate 50 coats of polyurethane in a single application.
