I would use the Murphy's Oil Soap to clean the piece, then good furniture polish such as Guardsman or Old English to bring the finish back.How do I clean an antique wooden coffee table?
I used ';Liquid Gold'; on my 100-year old dining room table, and it worked wonders!

Clean with Dawn %26amp; water to remove the water-soluble dirt (most of it).
Clean with naphtha to remove the hydrocarbon-soluble dirt %26amp; waxes.
Then apply shellac, polish (other than Pledge), or furniture wax.
If the finish is in sound shape, this will do wonders.
get those old english wipes they are sweet iam pretty sure they make an antique style. and it makes the finish more shinny also they make polish.
Sand, Stain, and Min Wax will fix your problem or solicit the help of your local handy man.
Murphy's Oil Soap. Its made for cleaning wood.
