How can I paint my compressed wood laminated night table and desk black?

I have a compressed wood night table and a desk, but they are like a cherry wood color. I want them to match my black tv stand and coffee table. Have any ideas? I mean, its laminated so I don't know what to do. Can somebody help me?How can I paint my compressed wood laminated night table and desk black?
lightly sand all surfaces to be painted. Prime all surfaces with a good alkyd ( oil based) primer. Paint with a premium acrylic enamel or any industrial enamel. Enamel has a tight, hard finish and typically creates a good moisture barrier.

definitely don't use spray paint! my roommate and i tried simply spray painting over a laminated entertainment center and it came out streaky and TERRIBLE looking! otherwise the guy above me sounded like he knew what he was talkin about :-)
Spray it with a primer seal the primer then paint it or you could put black Formica over what is existing Good Luck
