We bought the beautiful wood dining table from Indonesia, a country that is very humid. This large table is made from one pieace of old wood. Now we live in 4 season country with very low humidity and the table is cracking everywhere.
Any thoughts on what's the best way to cure these cracks? How do you do you treat the cracks on wood table?
Buy some wood putty to fill in the cracks. Go 1 shade darker than the wood, because when the putty dries, it will dry lighter.
Bye something called ';Finish Feeder';. It has lemon oil %26amp; beeswax in it, along with other natural ingredients that will enhance %26amp; moisturize your wood table.
If you can't find the Finish Feeder, buy Tung Oil or Watco Danish Oil (neutral) %26amp; use to treat your wood. Since your wood is dry, it will need mositure added on a regular basis. How do you do you treat the cracks on wood table?
That will happen. First try gluing the smaller cracks, and the ends of larger cracks to stop them from continuing. You will need White or wood glue (either will work)and clamps (they are fairly cheap at your home improvement store and you may need to do this a few times til the wood has finished drying out and causing the cracks).
Put glue over each crack and push into crack with your finger as far as it will go. On larger cracks(over 1/16'; just do ends)put clamps on and tighten down. Do not make it too tight just enough to bring wood together and squeeze a bit of the glue out. Quickly wipe excess glue off with a damp rag. (If any dries you may have to sand and refinish.)
Let dry.
Next you will need wood putty in the color of the tabletop. You can get this at your local hardware or H.I. store.push this with a putty knife into larger cracks til it fills them completely. Use putty knife to remove excess. Let dry. Sand tabletop lightly use tack cloth to remove dust and apply a sealing polyurethane across tabletop. Let dry again and you are finished.
